Metallica é uma banda de Heavy Metal originada de Los Angeles, California, cujos integrantes atuais são James Hetfield (guitarra base e vocal), Kirk Hammett (guitarra solo), Lars Ulrich (bateria) e Robert Trujillo (baixo).

Originalmente formada por James Hetfield (1981 - ) no vocal e guitarra base, Lars Ulrich (1981 - ) na bateria, Dave Mustaine (1981 - 1982) na guitarra solo e Ron McGovney (1981 - 1982) no baixo. Dave Mustaine foi expulso da banda por problemas envolvendo entorpecentes para fundar o Megadeth, outra banda do mesmo cenário Thrash Metal, sendo posteriormente substituído por Kirk Hammett (1982 - ). Já Ron McGovney fora posteriormente substituído por Cliff Burton (1982 - 1986). Cliff morreu esmagado pelo ônibus da própria banda, em um acidente rodoviário na metade de 1986, sendo substituído por Jason Newsted (1986 - 2001). Jason, que na minha opinião é irmão gêmeo de James Hetfield, esteve com a banda no seu melhor momento, quando surgiram os álbuns ...And Justice For All (1988), Metallica (também conhecido como Black Album - 1991), Load (1996), Reload (1997), Garage Inc. (1998). Além disso, esteve na gravação do melhor álbum ao vivo deles, na minha opinião, o S&M (1999).

Enfim, hoje Newsted não mais está presente no Metallica tendo sido substituído pelo atual baixista, Robert Trujillo (2003 - ). Veremos do que o chicano é capaz, muito embora já tenhamos uma boa idéia com o último álbum, Death Magnetic(2008).
